This is the real, actual stuffed Misty of Chincoteague and her daughter, following those are real live ponies on the island and finally are three shots of the island from the mainland, one on a sunny day and two on a rather forbidding day. No doubt Chincoteague Island will be under water soon because of global warming. Isn't it wonderful that we will always have Misty and Stormy to remind us of the good old days.

So, are the stuffed horses at a museum? Kinda creepy. I undertand Roy Roger's Trigger is stuffed and in a museum, too. I loved your photos of the roundup and the island. I am more familiar with the wild Banker Ponies in NC. But they all have an interesting heritage.
Yes, they are in a little museum in the town. It has various memorabilia as well as misty and stormy. Every year they throw a birthday party for the descendants of Misty.
So Misty's real? I loved the Marguerite Henry books about her and her fillys/colt. I hope that one day I'll be able to visit her and Chincoteague.
Yes, the story is based on a real horse & her filly. It is a fun trip to the island particuarly when they do the famous pony swim from the island to the mainland. Hundreds of people come out to watch both from shore and from boats.

misty was born during the pony penning day then paul bebee saved misty from drowning and paul and his sister paid 100 dollars to buy the phantom them after 5 months he let the phantom go its jst so sad then misty followed them home and i wathched the movie so i now this stuff

misty is cute and im a 4th grader and my class is reading about misty of chincoteague in the first part it is sad but you know what misty if you were still alive today i would tell you how cute you are!!!!!!! im just posting dis commit beacause i want yall to know how i feel. and if you havent read misty of chincoteague what we read so far its great!!! rest in peace misty i bet that everyone who nowed you are so lucky i know you and you are so cute i wish that i was your owner cause i would take good care of you like paul and margreat got to go i hope you enjoyed your self living and i cant beliave they sold you omg!!!! i realy got to go love you as you know it cant whate what happends in the story next by cuty!!!!
wish they could have done a wax figure for misty and stormy instead of stuffing them..misty doesnt look a bit like I imagined..I was hoping for a more spunky look. my daughter is doing a science fair project on assateauge ponies (she is in first grade) and she wonders if their are any preditors on the island besides humans and dieases.
I don't think there are any predators of horses on the island.

Googled "misty of chincoteage" because we are heading down for a family vacation. I am in stiches from this post and the captions with the photos! I went down each year to Chincoteague as a child and was horrified each year by the stuffed pony. "will someone open the blinds"! Thank you for a great laugh!

I love that humor, I am still laughing about it now! We are headed to Chincoteague on our first family vacation with our 4 year old son. I can't wait to see his expression when we take him to see the "stuffed pony" on display! He might be confused and refuse to sleep with his "stuffed animals" on his bed! Then you have the "wild ponies" that are only wild because someone is trying to catch them after a forced long swim across the water! HAHA! They are wild because they are running for their freedom! Thanks again for the laughs!
Misty di not just have one colt. She has a tow or a few more. The one that is most known is Stormy. She had Stormy at the BeeBe Ranch.

I've read all 5 of the Masty books! They are great and in "Misty's Twilight" didn't it say that Sunshine was a descdend of Misty. (Her foal or something.) I can't wait untill this summer, I'm going to Chincoteague, do they still do pony penning day?
Liz, They did still do pony penning about 4 years ago when I visited Chicoteague. It is a beautiful area. I'm sure you will have a great time! Thanks for commenting.

Hello! Stormy was a filly! The only colt Misty had was Phantom Wings. And I kinda doubt that Misty wanted to meet a stuffed wolf, OR a dead man!
